Ridgeback
Ridgeback
From the Stegosaurus to the Rhodesian Ridgeback many animals have had prominent ridges on their back. Our Ridgeback is named for its (loose) resemblance to those creatures.
Top hand grip is a near-ubiquitous trouble spot for young hockey players. The Ridgeback attaches to the knob area of the stick to effortlessly guide players into the proper top hand position. The prominent fin on the bottom and ridge on the back are feedback-creation mechanisms to ensure the only comfortable way to hold the Ridgeback is the right way. In other words, it is uncomfortable to hold the stick in the problematic way that becomes a habit for so many young skaters!
Use the Ridgeback to create a beneficial habit. After training with it, let players practice without it to develop game realistic stick and puck feel. Then, periodically, revisit Ridgeback training to ensure good top hand position habit sticks for the long term!
FEATURES:
Reinforces proper muscle memory
Habit forming training aid that takes the mental effort out of getting in the right position. It makes it basically automatic.
Can be used for all stickhandling drills
The Ridgeback adds size to the knob area of the stick. This is not preferred for game-performance, but it challenges grip strength more than a normal sized knob helping to develop greater top hand grip strength.
Sets players up for all their future puckhandling skills and techniques by ensuring the top hand is properly positioned.
